Rwanda basketball federation (Ferwaba) had a fairly successful 2013. But the federation is plotting a more successful 2014.

According to Ferwaba Secretary General Richard Mutabazi, all tournaments that were organised in 2013 were held successfully; while the national men's senior team competed at the Fiba Africa Championship and finished tenth out of sixteen countries.

Rwandan champions, Espoir failed to defend the Zone V championships title after losing to Burundi's Urunana in the final.

Another achievement of 2013 was getting the legal status for the federation, three new league clubs as well two member associations hence complying with the deadline of December 31, 2013 that was set by the ministry of sports.

Clubs that managed to have the legal status before the deadline include; champions Espoir, 30-Plus and United Generation Basketball (UGB) as well as the local basketball referees' and coaches' associations.

"We achieved a lot in 2013 but it is not enough, we have to put in more effort to reach even greater heights this year," Mutabazi told Times Sport on Wednesday.

Asked when the new season will begin, he said, "We are holding the federation's general assembly on January 19, and it's from there that the entire calendar will be discussed."

During the general assembly, 2013 financial reports will also be revealed as well as the master plan.

According to tentative information, the 2014 season is set to start late February or early March.
