UGANDA : Power in good nick ahead of UCU showdown

It remains very important for both DMark Power and UCU Canons to take it a game at time even if the two have already set the tone in the Airtel National Basketball League.
July 12 could be significant in firing the first shot in terms of title ambitions as the two will meet at the Lugogo MTN Arena in a repeat of last year’s quarterfinal clash which UCU won 2-1.
It’s looking very likely that they will get to that date unbeaten.
Power, like UCU two days prior when they beat Falcons 101-91, continued their perfect start, with an 86-59 win over Charging Rhino on Sunday. Former MVP Isaac Afidra scored a game-high 27 and picked 12 rebounds, Norman Blick added 15, Paul Odong and Ben Komakech contributed 10 each, the latter also committing 10 turnovers. This was rather an expected result against a Rhino side that is almost bound to spend the season fighting relegation. However, before Power look too far ahead, they face plucky KIU Titans on Friday.
“We should share the ball and not let teams get too comfortable with half-court basketball,” Blick, the reigning MVP having rejoined Power from champions Warriors, said. UCU have to play Rhino and Nkumba Marines over the next fortnight. The perennial semifinalists should brush aside those two easily.

Thereafter, UCU will need to raise their game like they did for victories against the other four semifinal contenders in KIU, Warriors, City Oilers and Falcons.
