Lions’ coach Morris Shitsama says the first result over the weekend was encouraging and a positive start to a new season. Lions defeated newly promoted Nairobi Aviation College 80-66 in their first league match on Sunday afternoon at the Nyayo Gymnasium.
Lions capitalized on their experience, a factor Shitsama says gave them much needed advantage, “Aviation is a very good team, they have been together since the lower league and now they are in the Premier League so they know each other well but experience helped us.”
“They got exhausted later in the match and cracked and we took advantage of that to win the day.” He added.
Shitsama applauded their new players stating that they had a huge impact in the game, “we have James Omune who came from Ulinzi and his impact was felt immediately. Getting 19 points is a good thing considering it was his 1st game. The other two Dennis Opiyo from KPA and Simon Hill who played for Barclays also contributed a lot.”
Shitsama concluded by stating that the win was only the 1st match and they won’t get carried away with it since there is a long way ahead in the year, “that was just the 1st game and we need to focus for future matches, but all in all the win was a huge morale booster considering what we have gone through.”
