RWANDA : Start of Basketball league postponed over delayed squad lists

The started of the 2012/13 national basketball league season has been postponed to next weekend because some clubs have not submitted their squads, Rwanda Basketball Federation has announced.
According to the local basketball governing body Secretary General Richard Mutabazi, only three teams in men’s category have submitted lists of their players. They are Espoir, UGB and Rusizi. Others, including the champions KBC, APR, NUR and KIE, have not yet submitted theirs.
Initially, the new league season was supposed to kick off this weekend, but it has been moved to next week.
“We made it clear to the teams that they have to send us the list of players but till today (Friday), most of them have not heeded the call,” Mutabazi told Times Sports.
He added, “We cannot start the league with only three teams. We are giving them one more week to submit all the required documents.”
Mutabazi added that there will be two new teams, 30-Plus based in Kimisagara in the men league, and Rwandans Allied for Peace (RAPP) in the women league.

The fixtures for new season have already been made. Newcomer s 30-Plus will make their league debut against defending champions Kigali Basketball Club, while CSK will host APR.

Kigali Institute of Education will open their campaign against UGB, while Espoir will meet Rusizi on Saturday.

On Sunday, KBC will play against Rusizi, Espoir will host National University of Rwanda, KIE will entertain CSK while UGB will lock horns with APR.
