KENYA : Nairobi Provincial League Set to Feature Two Zones

The 2012 Nairobi Provincial League will be divided into two zones to accommodate the new teams expected to join the fray, a top Nairobi Basketball Association (NBA) official has said. NBA chairman Ronnie Owino said the zoning will help cut down on the number of matches in a season and ensure the league does not run beyond October of every year.

The league had 22 teams in both categories last year. He said the new season will tip off on April 14 at the Nairobi Railways Club although a number of teams yet to be determined. "We will start our programme in April with about 20 men and eight women teams. With Upper Hill School and Kenya Airways moving up to the national league, we have new teams coming in to join the show.
Other than the promoted ones, we will retain the teams we had and also include some more.We would not like to leave any team out," he said. Meanwhile, Owino confirmed Kenya will send the men and women's teams to Kampala, Uganda for the 14th edition of the East and Central Africa Inter Cities championships despite financial hardships.
The event will bring together cities from Tanzania, Southern Sudan, Somaila, Burundi, Rwanda and Host Uganda. The week long event throws off April 24. "As the defending champions in both the men and women category, we will ensure our teams go to Kampala for this championships," he said.
