KENYA : KPA lose fourth straight tie as they fall to Angolan side .

KENYA Ports Authority (KPA) lost their penultimate Africa women’s Club championships game after going down 56-59 to GD Macauloso of Angola in Lagos, Nigeria. The loss means the Kenyan champions, who face off against host club First Deepwater today are out of the race without winning a match. Their only maximum points came courtesy of a walk over awarded after Cameroon’s INJS failed to show up in Lagos for the 17th edition of the event.

In their closest game of the tournament, KPA trailed 11-12 in the first quarter and battled hard to take a closely fought second quarter 19-13. Both teams retired for the breather with the dock women ahead 30-25. But after the intermission, Macauloso hit back, taking a 14-11 edge in the third quarter. In the decisive fourth, Angolans continued to push forward for the vital baskets, taking the quarter and the game 20-15.
With key guard Mwajuma Suleiman taken ill, it was Hellen Oketch who scored the porters 13 points while Brenda Angechi and Mirriam Awuor added nine each. For the winners, Marisa Nsimane was the star sinking game high 26 points. In an all Nigerian clash, the 2009 champions First Bank beat compatriots First Deepwater 68-60 in a nip and tuck encounter. First Bank and reigning champions InterClube have yet to lose a game.
