KENYA : KPA basketball star Mwajuma out of comma

KPA basketball star Mwajuma Suleiman is currently recuperating at a Mombasa hospital where she was admitted immediately after her team landed in Nairobi from Nigeria where they took part in the 2011 FIBA Africa Basketball Club championshp. The team returned on Monday 12th December from Nigeria.
During the club championship in their final match against Malucosso of Angola, Mwajuma collided with an opponent and received a heavy knock on her back with doctors suspecting she could have injured her spinal cord.
According to team coach Anthony Ojukwu, Mwajuma went into a comma for two days when in Nigeria and was admitted in a Nigerian hospital but has been improving steadily.
“It was a very nasty injury, doctors are suspecting she could have injured her spine but we are yet to receive a detailed report after the scans conducted on Tuesday.Since we arrived in Mombasa she has been improving and can now manage to walk.” Said Coach Ojuku who blamed the extent of the injury to lack of proper medical facility on the court at the time of the injury.
“There was no ambulance and no qualified doctors to take care of her when she fell after the knock, it took a very long time to get her to hospital thus worsening the injury.” Added Ojukwu. “But we are happy she can now walk and talk a good sign of quick recovery.”
