RWANDA : Rwanda makes bid for 2013 Fiba Afrobasket

RWANDA presented her bid to host the 27th edition of FIBA Africa Championship for Men-Afrobasket 2013 on Wednesday in Antananarivo, Madagascar.

But Rwanda’s bid faces stiff competition from Tunisia and Cote d’Ivoire, who also presented their bids to the Executive Council of FIBA Africa.
The meeting was chaired by president of FIBA Africa Mabusa Eseka of Democratic Republic of Congo. Eseka welcomed the delegates from the three countries and promised the continental body fairness in arriving at a final decision.
The Executive Committee will meet again in September this year in Bamako, Mali during the Afrobasket for Women to decide on the host country.
If the rotational basis is to be considered, Rwanda has an advantage over Tunisia and Cote d’Ivoire to host the tournament.
Despite having high class hotels and transport facilities, the country is still incapable of possessing modern gymnasiums to be used for competition and training necessities.

In 2009, Rwanda hosted their first ever Afrobasket competition and will hope to build on that if they win the 2013 bid
