NIGERIA : Pillars Win DSTV Top 8

Kano Pillars have once again proved their supremacy in Nigeria’s basketball with their success at the NBBF/DSTV Super 8, as they defeated Royal Hooper of Port Harcourt to win the week-long championship yesterday.

Kano Pillars, who had twice won the Super 8, had a narrow victory over the Hoopers with a 78-77 point win at the Civic Centre, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria.

An elated chief coach of the champions, Sani Ahmed told P.M.Sports after the match that “with what we saw this evening (yesterday), the future of the game in the country is bright. I have to give kudos to the Local Organising Committee for packaging one of the best final-eight tourneys this year.”

He noted that the final was one of the toughest his side played on the local scene in recent times, as the Hoopers gave them a good run for their money.

Ogoh Odaudu, Head Coach of the Hoopers was disappointed losing the match, but he was glad the team secured a ticket to play at the FIBA-Africa Club Championship later in the year.

The winners, apart from the trophy, received N1million; Hoopers got N500,000, while Union Bank, who beat Dodan Warriors 80-74 points to finish third, went home with N300,000.
