KENYA : Eagle Wings devour Predators


Fiba-Africa Zone Five basketball club champions Eagle Wings on Saturday whitewashed Predators 82-30 in a one-sided women’s Premier League match at the Nyayo National Stadium.

Former women’s champions Kenya Ports Authority also had an easy run, beating hosts Kenya College of Accountancy University (KCA-U) 80-20.

Parklands Baptist kepttheir top form, thrashing Friends of Basketball 64-43. Mennonites were too good forTrail Blazers, whom they defeated 56-45.

Having failed to travel to Mombasa last weekend, reigning league champions Eagle Wings pounced on Predators early. Superstar Shan Silalei hit eight points while Angela Akoth was also on fire to lead Eagle Wings toa 23-4 first-quarter lead.

Predators, who had their engine Wilkister Akinyi ejected on five fouls, trailed 44-17 at half-time. Silalei took all the responsibility as Eagle Wings easily went up 20-8 and 18-5 in the last two quarters.

A hardworking Caroline Oyugi scored 13 for Predators, who are shaping upfor an international invitational tournament in South Africa later this month.

KPA registered two important points when Vyonne Akinyi scored 14 points and Milicent Anyango 10 to lead them to a 80-20 victory over KCA-U.

The students had nothing to offer, going down with a huge 33-4 margin at half-time. Salmah Akinyi hit 10 points andHilda Luvandwa 11 for KPA.

Maintain their good record

Joseph Situma scored 17 points while Daniel Imbali shot 12 to help Parklands Baptist maintain their good record while beating Friends of Basketball 64-43.

The victors led 26-19at half-time, Derick Walumbe providing 10 points as GilbertObiero got 15 for the losers.
Mennonites also kept the fire burning when they hit Trail Blazers 56-45after leading 26-14 at the breather. Evergreen Steve McOdongo scored a game-high 15 points for Mennonites while Dennis Oyaro replied with 13.
