KENYA : KBF suspends 2009 national league

According to Vitalis Gode, the KBF secretary, the move has been necessitated by the current stand off between the federation and the teams that started after the failed meeting of March 21.
"We have decided to suspend the 2009 national league till further notice. This decision has been occasioned by current stand off by section of the clubs." Gode said in a letter to the Kenya National Sorts Council (KNSC).
The letter, dated April 26, has also been copied to the Sports Secretary Ministry of Youth and Sports and also to the continental basketball governing body - FIBA Africa.

A series of meetings between the KBF and team managers that started nearly five weeks ago, have so far failed to break the stalemate with each party standings its ground.
The last meeting at the Coca Cola Stadium on April 25 as invited by KBF followed another one on April 23 that went on past mid night at the Railway club, have so far bore no fruits.

Nellie Odera, the Team managers secretary says:" Unfortunately none of the KBF officials appeared for the said meeting. After most members had left, the treasurer appeared at 5.30 p.m with no letter."
Henry Shihemi, the KBF first vice chairman yesterday told Fiba Afrique that the team managers are now pushing for a different agenda other than the one on the table.
"They are talking about other things that are not possible like having votes during the Governing Council meetings". noted Shihemi adding "only the branch officials are welcomed in these meetings."

The league was programmed to throw off on April 4 with the first leg fixtures already drawn by fixtures secretary Joseph Amoko.
But the team managers have insisted that unless a meeting takes place between KBF and the teams to seriously address the burning issues, they will not be moved.
