TANZANIA : Inter cities championships: Harare beat Tanga 60 – 52 and booked the semi final ticket

NAIROBI women's team were awarded their match against Arusha on a 20-0 basis after the home girls failed to show up for their second Inter Cities championships match at Soweto Grounds, Arusha.


The team which do not have a game today, arrived onto the playing courts in time only to be told that their opponents, who were only playing their first ever regional show, would not be coming after all. The team ended up playing a friendly against the referees losing 53-51.

Arusha had lost 93-02 to Nairobi and crushed 151-13 to Dar in their opening two matches played the previous day. "They are all sick. I told them to rest." said team official Ali Jua when asked why the did not show up to honour the fixture.

Nairobi will meet Dar es Salaam in the final day tomorrow. The first encounter was won by Dar 65-64 and Ben Oluoch's girls know nothing short of a two point win will do for the Kenyans who have vowed to give it their all and reclaim their crown.

Reigning champions Dar es Salaam blanked Mogadishu 55-29 to book a semi finals ticket without losing a tie. Dar took the first quarter 8-0, lost the second 12-3 but were at their best taking the third 23-9, and the last 12-6.

Alphonse Kisaka made 10 points while Maige Sylvan shot 12. For the Somalians, Mohammed Ibrahim scored 12 including eight in the first half while Ibrahim Hussein bagged nine.

Playing in only their first Inter Cities tournament, Harare shocked Tanga 60-52 with a disciplined play to romp into the semi finals. They took the first quarter 19-14 and the second 18-11 but trailed 9-12 in the third and 14-15 in the last. They will face off against pool B winner Dar.

Thariso Nkomo and Steve Mudawarima each made 11 points each while Emmanuel Mukandi led with 15 points for the winners who were exited at their proggresss. Dabad Maruli shot 16 points while Gidibo scored 23 points for the losers.
