By Erick Ochieng’

National women’s basketball team was edged 57-53 by Uganda at the ongoing Zone Five Africa Nations championships qualifiers in Kigali, Rwanda.
This came after the team succumbed 61-52 to hosts Rwanda on Wednesday. Rwanda are yet to concede defeat. Coach Phillip Onyango attributed the losses to injuries.

Uganda won the first quarter 17-15, but lost second and third which Kenya won 20-15 and 15-10.

The Ugandans found a soft landing in the last quarter which they easily won 15-7, following absence of Carolyn Achieng (forward), Helen Aketch (centre) and Samba Mjomba (forward) due to injuries.
" We played a brilliant game but we could not keep up with the Ugandan’s pace as they were physical," Onyango said.
Uganda’s Miriam Hamala scored 15 points followed by Achieng, who netted 11 points before withdrawing from the game.

Egypt’s men registered their third victory yesterday by hammering Burundi 95-50 in a one-sided duel. Kenya meets Burundi today as the rest take a break to resume action tomorrow.
