NIGERIA : At last final-8 dunks-off in Kano

The champion of the Nigeria men league – The Premier league will emerge as the final-8 playoffs dunks-off at the ancient city of Kano Tuesday with Nigeria Customs Service men basketball club who did not make the cut from the Atlantic conference took the place of former champion, Ebun Comets basketball club of Lagos who withdrew its participation from the championship.

The playoffs apart from producing the champion of the Nigeria domestic league for the 2007/2008 season will also produce Nigeria representative at the FIBA Africa Zone-3 qualifiers to be staged by Union Bank basketball between November 11 and 18 in Lagos.

The final-8 playoffs which was postponed due to Nigeria U18 national team participation at the 16th FIBA Africa Championship for U18 Men which was rounded off last Sunday in Alexandra, Egypt.

Eight teams are already in Kano with the Customs as the last team to arrival for the championship which pitched four qualifiers each from the Atlantic and Savannah conference of the Premier League.

The teams that are battling for the soul of the Nigerian league includes from the Atlantic conference Union Bank, Dodan Warriors, Islanders and Customs and carrying the challenge from the Savannah conference are Niger Potters, Kano Pillars, Plateau Peaks and AHIP basketball clubs.

The winner will be decided through point’s accumulation as the playoffs will go through a round-robin process with all eight teams having the opportunity to play one another.
