KENYA : Two Premier League encounters postponed

By Dann O’Werre

Two Premier League basketball games slated for Mombasa this weekend have been postponed.
Joseph Amoko, the Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) fixtures secretary, told SportFest on Thursday that University of Nairobi teams would not travel to Mombasa. They were due to play Kenya Ports Authority at Makande Welfare hall.
"The officials have asked for postponement as they could not travel to Mombasa. We understand their case and have postponed the matches," Amoko said.
The rest of the weekend fixtures in Nairobi, he said, will go on as programmed at Nyayo National Stadium gymnasium.
After the weekend games, the league takes a two-week break to resume on June 14.

Meanwhile, the Madaraka Open tournament has been moved back to its traditional venue of Kakamega, officials confirmed.
Henry Shihemi, the KBF vice-chairman, said they had decided to remove the event from Meru where it was held for the first time last year. The event will be staged between May 31 and June 1 at Kakamega Police Canteen courts.

KBF Eastern branch will also have theirs, according to secretary, Ambrose Kisoi. It will be sponsored by Mkebwa, a non-profit organisation and it will be held at Kenya Methodist University.
The tournament is open to clubs, colleges and universities and will have a prize money of Sh20,000 for the winners, Sh15,000 for runners-up and Sh10,000 for third placed.

In the schools’ category, the top three will get Sh10,000, Sh5,000 and Sh3,000.
Kisoi said entry fee is Sh1,500 for clubs, colleges and universities while schools will pay Sh1,000.
The venues are Kemu, Meru School, Kaaga Girls, Meru Teachers College, Meru Hospital and Meru Technical.
