by KIM KAMASA

Fifteen basketball players together with a technical staff of seven members left for Tunisia yesterday afternoon aboard a Kenya Airways for a series of build-up games ahead of the highly coveted African Basketball championships due in August in the Angolan capital, Luanda. According to the local basketball governing body, Ferwaba, the national team will play three build-up games with the Tunisian national team.

“We are going to be in Tunis from June 26th-4thJuly and according to the arrangements we are going to play three build up games” the federation’s General Secretary Mugabo Jean-Lucien said.
From Tunisia, the national team will head to Cairo, Egypt where it will have more build-up games with the Egyptian side.

Egypt beat Rwanda to a place in the All Africa games and Rwanda believes that this will be a good way of testing herself ahead of the CAN event.

Before the team’s departure, Mugabo also revealed that the country’s basketball star Hamza Ruhezamihigo who has been under-going pro trials in Boston (USA) together with Rob Thompson who is on holiday in the USA are expected to link up with the national team in Cairo.

He will join the likes of Igor Rwigema, Djin Bandound, Michel Shema and Raoul Mballa who all feature for foreign leagues.

“We have been communicating and we are certain that he will join us in Tunisia” Mugabo said.
At the CAN event, Rwanda is seeded alongside Angola, Cape Verde and Morrocco.
