TANZANIA : Tanzanian to head FIBA committee

A TANZANIAN has been picked to head the Zone Five Basketball Committee for Disabled following the elections that were held in Kigali, Rwanda over the weekend.

Lawrence Cheyo, who is the Secretary General of the Tanzania Basketball Federation TBF), was elected by the Federation of International Basketball Associations (FIBA) Africa Congress in Kigali.
Kenyan Moris Aluanga was elected President of FIBA, Africa Zone Five, while Magdi Abdou from Egypt was elected the Vice-President. The Secretary- General post went to Kenyan Vitalis Gode.
The technical committee would be under Magdi Abdou (Egypt), while Francis Mulindabigini (Rwanda) would head the Competitions Committee.
The women and youth Committee went to Ambrose Tashobega of Uganda, as Abdulkadir Abdullah of Ethiopia will take charge of legal committee. The general meeting involved various countries including Ethiopia, Uganda, Egypt, Tanzania, Kenya, Burundi and hosts Rwanda.
Meanwhile, Rwandan President Paul Kagame officially opened the Zone Five Challenge Trophy on Saturday at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali. The opening match pitted the hosts against the four time winners Egypt.
The tournament is expected to wind up on Saturday. Winners will secure the ticket to compete in the All African Games set for Algiers, Algeria in July this year.
