RWANDA : Ferwaba commends sponsors

The National Basketball Federation (Ferwaba) has extended it’s gratitude to the sponsors of the Zone V Basketball/ All Africa Games qualifiers’ championship that ended at Amahoro Petit Stade on Saturday.
Egypt and Kenya earned automatic qualifications the men and women’s category respectively, to play at the All Africa Games, which tournament will staged in Algiers, Algeria in July.
Speaking at the event’s closing function; Ferwaba’s president Fidele Rutagarama was grateful to the companies that supported the week-long tournament.
MTN, the leading telecommunications firm and Rwanda Commercial Bank (BCR) threw their weight behind the championship that attracted only five countries out of the expected 10.
“Without their contribution, we wouldn’t have had a free-flowing tournament. Their contribution was very vital to the competition and we only hope that they can continue rendering this kind of support in future,” Rutagarama said.
The Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture (MIJESPOC) Secretary General Jean Pierre Karabaranga also acknowledged MTN and BCR’s support at the competition and advised other companies to follow suit.
He was also happy with the general organisation of the event and confirmed that Rwanda was ready to host any future regional and international basketball competitions. The ministry contributed the biggest percentage to this qualifiers’ budget, with MTN and BCR supplementing.
Rwanda’s men national basketball team finished second in the competition behind Egypt while the ladies’ side could only manage a third spot finish, in a category the Kenyan women won. The Military Medical Insurance company, was too partners of the tournament.
