NIGERIA : Asaba Girls, Queen of Rosary Win

The final rounds of the 2006 Nestle Milo Secondary Schools Basketball began yesterday at the National Stadium, Lagos with astonishing results in some of the matches played. The first two games in the girls' category produced results that can compete for places in the World Guinness Book of Records.
In the very opening game of the competition Queen of the Rosary Secondary School, Gboko drilled Government Girls College Bauchi 47-6. The result left spectators wondering how the losers made it to the national stage as all 12 teams in Lagos are champions of their various conferences.And it was a day of losses for the Bauchi girls as they also fell by 33-9 to Yejide Girls Grammar School, Ibadan later in the afternoon when they played their second game of the day.

When the teams left the court, Asaba Girls Grammar School, Asaba and Government Girls College, Gazawa, Kano took over and produced another one sided game.The Asaba Girls mauled their opponents 30-8 with their eyes now set at the semi-final stage.

In the Boys Group A opening game, Sheik Gumi Abubakar College, Kaduna defeated Government College, Maiduguri 39-19. But the next match in the boys' event was keenly contested to the admiration of the spectators.

St Thomas Basic Group of Schools, Benin City defeated Commercial Secondary School, Kolo, Bayelsa by just three points with the match ending 29-26.
