This year's Cup of Cameroon in basketball will be played probably on September 16 at the Concorde stadium of the University of Yaounde I. However, the date is not yet certain as the finals of handball have been scheduled to take place on the same day and venue. According to the Assistant Secretary General of FECABASKET, Fochive Fils Jeannot, the Federation will hold talks today with officials of FECAHAND to set a final date. Six teams will be taking part in three different categories. In the men's category, Noga Air Force of Douala will play against BEAC Yaounde. In the female category, LMS of Douala will lock horns with BEAC Yaounde and in the junior category, Ecole de Basket of Douala will clash with last year's champion, Phoenix. Winners will qualify for African championships.

At the level of the championship, Ecole de Basket Douala emerged champions for the junior category. Whereas INJS basketball club topped the female championship and phoenix Douala was the winner of the men's championship. At the end of the men's championship, Phoenix Douala and BEAC Yaounde qualified for the eliminatory round of champions' cup, Zone 4 which regroups teams from central Africa.

Last two years Cameroon was vice African champion for the under twenty competition. One year ago, Cameroon was champion at club level of Zone 4. The Assistant Secretary General regretted the non participation of Cameroon in the African Cup of Nations of club champions that took place in Cote d'Ivoire. He pleaded with the Ministry of Sports and Physical Education to assist clubs that have qualified for continental competitions this year, to be able to effectively take part in the competitions.
