NIGERIA : Zenith Bank League: Elephant Girls, Delta Qualify

The Western Conference Play off for the Zenith Bank Female Basketball League ended yesterday in Akure with the First Bank team and Delta Force qualifying for the Final-8 Play off from that centre.
The First Bank team expectedly won the contest from Akure but the Delta ladies who swept aside Dolphins to finish second became the surprise survival from that ‘Zone of Death.” The pre-tournament analyses was based on the teams’ perceived form before the championship began by the weekend.
The two teams are joining Blue Angels and the Customs who booked the first two tickets from the Equatorial Conference qualifiers held in Asaba last week. Blue Angels are the Team B of First Bank.
The Akure contest rounded off with two matches yesterday. In the first game, the conference winners confirmed class with the 82-47 defeat handed Delta Force of Asaba. The victory clearly marked out First Bank as the winner of the conference having won all four matches played. The second game ended 84-54 in favour of Dolphins against Oluyole Babes of Ibadan. It was a revival victory for Dolphins who lost out to Delta in a nerve wrecking encounter on Tuesday.
Dolphins and Oluyole have finished as the best two losers and would therefore continue to the losers play off holding later in Abuja. Sunshine Angels and Dodan Amazons who secured the tickets from Asaba. The Bayelsa Queens having finished last on the table will drop to the Women Division one league from next season.
The qualifying series will move to Bauchi from the 23rd for the Savannah Conference teams.
