TANZANIA: Basketball League in earnest

By Burton Brown
Dar es Salaam Basketball body has warned the top clubs participating in the region’s premier league (Kili RBA) and the Dream Cup to form under-14 junior teams or else they will be barred from taking part in next season’s league.
Talking to The Express this week, the President of the Basketball Association of Dar es Salaam, Simon Msofe said the decision came as part of the BD’s strategies to develop basketball talents.
“We have already sent official letters to all responsible clubs notifying them about the changes,” he explained.
Both the Kili RBA League and Dream Cup have played a big role in producing many top players.
“This time we are very serious about the junior sides and will take strong measures against the teams that fail to comply with this new directive, they will be strictly barred from taking part in the leagues,” he insisted.
Apart from this, Msofe, also the President of the East African Intercity Basketball Federation, said that nine cities already had confirmed their participation in this year’s tournament to be held in Kampala, Uganda from May 7th.
